I recently came to know about the term NSDR, which means Non-Sleep Deep Rest. This is the technique developed by neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Huberman (Host of Huberman Lab Podcast)
Why I should do this?
Stress Relief
Improved Sleep Quality
Well Fitness performance
Helps to manage pain
What is NSDR- Non-Sleep Deep Rest?
The name tells what exactly it is. It is the practice of taking deep rest without sleeping, Let me explain it clearly, It is a relaxation protocol, which helps the brain and body enter a state of deep relaxation without actual sleep. It is a dream-like state where we are semi-aware of things that happen around us. (Don't worry we will discuss how we can practice itπ)
What does it include?
It includes focused breathing, body scanning, and guided meditation which is similar to our ancient Indian technique known as yoga nidra(yogic sleep). It helps in reducing stress and improving sleep quality.
How does it work?
During the practices, Brain's operational frequency slows down significantly and reduces our thoughts from approximately 35 per minute to just 1-3 per minute. When it enters into a calm state, our stress levels reduce gradual.ly
How to practice it?
I don't want to overcomplicate it, here's the simplest version:
Find a Quiet Place(for lying down or sitting)
Use guided sessions(avail online)
Focus on Breathing
Body Scan
Maintain Awareness
"The quieter you become, the more you can hear."

PS: Try once and implement it into your daily routine Dds
